How it works

What Actually Uses RAM on an Unturned Server

The map sets the baseline. Vanilla maps like PEI are light, while big Workshop maps such as California2 or Elver carry many more objects the server keeps loaded.

Workshop mods like vehicle and item packs add models and items to load, and every plugin (kits, shops, economy) adds a little on top. Players themselves are cheap in Unturned.

The calculator adds those up from data we collected on Unturned servers, then leaves about 15% headroom so the server never runs right at its limit. It's a guide, not a promise, and you can upgrade from the client area at any time.

Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers about Unturned server memory.

How much RAM does an Unturned server need?

A server on a small map like PEI runs in 2 GB. Medium maps with plugins sit well in 4 GB, and large maps such as California2 with many mods want 6 to 8 GB.

Do Workshop maps need more RAM?

Yes. Big custom maps hold far more objects than the vanilla maps, so they raise the baseline before anyone joins.

Do Rocket or OpenMod plugins use much RAM?

Each one adds a little. Dozens of plugins, especially economy and shop plugins, add up to a noticeable amount.

Is the calculator exact?

It is an estimate based on data we collected, with headroom added. You can upgrade from the client area at any time.
